Jason B. Gibbons, PhD

Jason Gibbons is an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School and a PORTAL faculty member. A health economist, his research focuses on optimizing pharmaceutical treatment strategies and affordable drug access, combining methods from machine learning and econometrics to improve clinical decision-making and inform health policy. He is currently developing dynamic treatment regime (DTR) models using electronic health record data to predict optimal treatment sequences for individuals with substance use and mental health disorders, and he studies pharmaceutical market competition with a focus on antitrust issues, patent strategies, and the effects of manufacturer practices on drug spending and health outcomes.

Prior to joining PORTAL, Dr. Gibbons served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Systems, Management, & Policy at the University of Colorado. He holds an undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Chicago, a PhD in Health Services Organization and Policy with a concentration in economics at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, and completed postdoctoral training in mental health policy at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
